As part of PAC’s Center Stage Series, Diavolo performed for a sold out audience March 17 in the CFL. The group kept the audience members on the edge of their seats with its mystical dancing and stunning acrobatics.

The group performed five modern dance-like pieces with large, impressive stage props. Each piece had its own meaning and theme and lasted anywhere between six and 30 minutes.

Diavolo opened the show with a piece performed in suit coats and black hats, dancing down a large wooden staircase. The piece represented the journey of isolation faced by people in the modern world. Performers leapt from stair to stair, using interpretive dance and gymnastic jumps.

The second piece featured two dancers performing a love duet on and around a door, which highlighted each dancer’s impressive strength. The third piece included a large, angled wall that had metal spokes coming out of it on which the dancers climbed up and down. Representing the trenches of war, the audience exchanged fluttered whispers of excitement throughout the piece.

The last piece before intermission, entitled “Caged,” left the audience ready for more. When the group came back for their final piece, a new prop had been added: a boat-like structure that tottered with the motions of the dancers.

As the dancers swayed back and forth and soared across the stage, the crowd was left gasping at the grace and precision of the movements.

Diavolo’s ten dancers enthralled the audience and performed a seamless show, one that will not soon be forgotten.
