CONSUMER REPORT: Best coffee on campus

By: Alli Brenny, coffee connoisseur

Since college students are often caffeine-driven zombies, it might be good to know your options. Taste-tested and student approved, here are my picks for the best coffees on campus.

Oneota Market:

Contrary to popular belief, lighter roasts are actually higher in caffeine than darker blends. So if you want more bang for your dining dollar, the Caribbean Hazelnut and the Buttered Rum are good options. The Caribbean Hazelnut has a crisp taste with a slight flavor. The Buttered Rum is leaning more towards a medium roast and has a bit more of a flavorful kick than the Caribbean. As far as dark roasts go, the Breakfast Brew has a robust flavor. If you’re skeptical, it can be toned down with a dash of milk.

Marty’s Cyber Café:

A place to get a decent latte or mocha and serving a wide variety of black coffees, Marty’s is a good mid-day caffeine stop. The Velvet Hammer dark roast, as the name suggests, has a smooth, rich taste. The light roast French Vanilla is good for those who need a little sweet flavor in their lives. As for a medium blend, the Organic Mexican Altura has a clean, classic taste that is sure to please all coffee drinkers.
