The Luther Women’s Soccer team kicked off their season posting a 2-3 record, a mediocre start compared to their finishing record of 11-7-2 last season. Despite this slow start, the team is optimistic with a mix of experienced players and incoming freshman talent.

“We just keep getting better every game, plus we have great team chemistry that has helped us through our losses,” Head Coach Kim Fair said. “The team never places the blame for any losses onto any of their teammates.”

The women’s most recent victory was September 10, against Division II school Concordia University, in which they outscored them 2-1. Luther took a 2-0 lead thanks to goals by Paige Ofstedahl (‘12), her first of the season, and Dani Meirick (‘12). Ofstedahl scored unassisted in the 22nd minute, while Meirick drove in her fifth goal of the season assisted by Anna Grinde at 51:02. Concordia’s lone goal came on a penalty kick by Sara Sather at 74:23. The win increased Luther’s overall record to 2-3, while Concordia fell to 3-3-1.

“Our youth and experience has meshed together very well,” Fair said. “There is always a competitive edge to games and practice throughout the squad.”

The Norse will travel to Viterbo University, Wis. Wednesday, Sept. 16. The Norse hope to keep improving as a team and record another important road victory.
