The Right Stuff: What the media are missing

By: Becky Zierke,

Green Jobs Czar Van Jones resigns and the mainstream media, or MSM, were out to lunch. For those of you who don’t know, the word czar should no longer conjure up images of imperial Russia. A czar is now someone with undefined power appointed by the President to oversee things like “green jobs.” Normally, when a leader appoints another person to a position of power, a vetting process takes place. In America, the media usually also vet candidates for all sorts of positions through thorough investigation. Not anymore, people.

Van Jones recently resigned his position of Green Jobs Czar after it came out that he was an avowed 9/11 Truther (a Truther is someone who thinks George Bush masterminded the 9/11 attacks while at the same time complaining about how he is the dumbest President ever. Other towering intellects of Trutherism include Charlie Sheen). Jones made no real effort to hide this fact, having signed many petitions and joined organizations of the kind. He’s also never really done anything. Now, Obama claims he had no idea Jones was a Truther. The media is letting Obama get away this bull yet again. Either Obama didn’t properly vet these people and just missed it, or he doesn’t mind staffing people who are so far out of touch they think George Bush killed 3,000 Americans and covered it up. It doesn’t matter which option you choose, both make Obama look like an inexperienced, rookie politician, which he is. But our media can’t make Obama look stupid because they sacrificed their journalistic integrity during the campaign to get him elected by not properly vetting him.

The President has appointed 32 so-called czars*, and 21 of them have completely unspecified salaries. The salaries that are reported are all over $100,000. Also, for each czar job created there exists at least one already existing governmental agency built to deal with these issues. But Obama doesn’t want to deal with these agencies, he wants people reporting directly to him who are not subject to the power of anyone else. How many of these people haven’t been properly vetted? Does the President actually have the power to do this?

We can argue over whether these czars are even legal to have or not, but what is clear as day is that if Bush or any other Republican went around appointing czars, the media would be all over it, digging through every trashcan to get every bit of dirt. This is the job of the media. I’m not opposed to the media being harsh on politicians, it’s a good thing. Everyone, excepting of course those of us on the conservative journalism feed, was completely shocked by the resignation and had no warning that Jones was in any way a suspicious character. The MSM ceased to be relevant or respectable and the Jones incident is one example among many. If you are interested, look up ACORN and you will find a wealth of unreported corruption. I encourage all of you to find the information yourself. Check your international news with the BBC and Al-Jezeera, check your domestic news with sites on both sides of the aisle. Check CNN, check Fox News. Make your own choices so the MSM will stop making them for you.
