“Mario’s Party” invades the Regents Center
Mario’s having a party — and everybody’s invited! Flamingo Ball, Student Activities Council’s annual homecoming dance, is happening this Saturday, Oct. 3 from 9 p.m. to midnight in the Regents Center.
Tying into SAC’s video game theme this year, “SAC: Rated E for Everyone,” Flamingo Ball’s theme this year is “Mario’s Party.” That means you can expect plenty of old-school Mario decorations, including gold coins, Mario clouds and the legendary question-mark boxes.
The City Lights Orchestra will perform at the dance. This is a different musical ensemble than Flamingo Ball has featured in the past. Hailing from Chicago, the orchestra is conducted by Rich Daniels. The 40-piece ensemble consists of a full string section and both male and female vocalists.
City Lights Orchestra plays a variety of music ranging from jazz to Top 40 hits.
Lizzie Sauter (‘11), Flamingo Ball co-chair, described how Flamingo Ball aims to appeal to all kinds of students. “If you really enjoyed your high-school dances, you’ll like this,” Sauter said. “If you didn’t enjoy your high-school dances, Flamingo Ball has a very different feel — i t’s classier.
Plus, it’s as informal or formal as you want.”
Flamingo Ball is the last of SAC’s homecoming week events. Tickets for the dance are free with the Co-Curricular Activities Fee or $12 without, and are available at the Luther Box Office or at the door.
