Church Council: Sit and Listen

Sewn together by needle and thread, a quilt is pieced together with many careful hands, both young and old, Indian and Guatemalan, black and white. Scraps are pulled together from different odds and ends to create a beautifully diverse work of art that represents the stories and voices of past and present through every piece.
We as a church community come from many diverse backgrounds, embodying different beliefs and perspectives that we bring to the table. Even further, we as a Church Council take on these differing faiths and beliefs and voice them in a way that will both enlighten each other and the surrounding community.
As Deacon of Global Concerns, I work with groups that strive for peace and spread awareness about injustices in the global community. The members of these organizations, coming from different backgrounds and perspectives, have different approaches and opinions on the issues our world faces daily yet they find ways to collaborate and connect with one another in order to form a strong vision to make their goals happen. We are a working entity with passions to voice the concerns of those who can’t. And in that, we are connected and forever linked.
We are a family of strangers coming together as neighbors, chain by chain and link by link. Like a diverse quilt of patterns and pieces connected into one, we as a community share and welcome ideas, beliefs and opinions with open arms, ready to sit and listen to the voices that need to be heard. So come and add to it! If you are interested in getting involved in any of our global concerns groups feel free to e-mail me at monttr01@luther.edu. We look forward to you joining in our mission for peace and justice!
