Wrestling places 4th at IIAC Championships

The Luther wrestling team placed fourth at the IIAC tournament Tuesday, Feb. 16, with five wrestlers qualifying for the NCAA Division III National Championships.

Among them are Jason Pyle (‘11) and Allyn Plattner (‘10) who won the individual championships at 149 lbs and 285 lbs., respectively.

Pyle and Platter became the 100th and 101th Luther wrestlers to claim league titles, according to Sports Information.

The team finished with 115 points, just behind Cornell with 120 and ahead of Dubuque with 113.5.

Wartburg won the team championship with a total of 176.5 points.

Also qualifying for the national championship is Jayson Swanson (‘11) at 125 lbs., Kevin Bokoski (‘11) at 141 lbs., and Nic Barclay (‘10) at 184 lbs.

The NCAA Division III National Champsionships will be help March 5-6 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Competition will begin at 10 a.m.
