Heart Art

A large heart was created on the Luther football field using footprints in the snow two days before Valentine’s Day by an unknown artist.

Luther students and faculty were pleasantly surprised by the unexpected artwork. President Richard Torgerson had a clear view of the heart as his office overlooks the football field.

“It was a really cool thing for someone to do,” Torgerson said.

He also noticed another heart in the same place earlier in the week that read “Will you Marry Me?” in the center.

“I would guess someone was proposing,” he said.

This is not the first message ever created on the field. Past messages range from offensive quotes to similiar dedications of love. Unlike other shocking messages that have appeared in the past, Bob Harri, director of campus security, is not too concerned about the heart.

“To be perfectly honest I have not given much thought to the heart on the football field,” Harri said. “I noticed there were heart-shaped footprints there one day last week but never paid much mind. I do not know who created the work.”

Students walking past the field couldn’t help but notice the enormous drawing and were amazed at the amount of work someone put into it.

“It was a pleasant surprise,” Katie Carnes (‘12) said. “It brought a smile to my face.”

Although no one knows the message culprit, look for more art as the snow continues.
