Comedian Ronnie Jordan set to bring laughs

The Student Activities Council’s Diversity Committee is sponsoring a new kind of performance March 5. At 9 p.m., comedian Ronnie Jordan will take the Marty’s stage.

Jordan hit the comedy scene in Atlanta, Ga. in 2001 and has not stopped making a comedic name for himself ever since. Among his various performances, Jordan has been featured on BET’s “Comic View” and “P. Diddy Presents Bad Boys of Comedy.” According to his Web site, Jordan has also shared concert dates with comedians like Mike Epps and Dave Chappelle.

Jordan was selected by SAC Diversity after committee co-chair Chad Sonka (‘12) saw Jordan perform at a regional conference for the National Association of Campus Activities.

“He was the emcee for the showcase performances, and during his emcee-ing, he kind of did most of his material,” Sonka said.

NACA conferences are one of the most important ways that SAC recruits for campus activities. The conferences feature various musicians, comedians, educational sessions and other types of campus entertainment.

“As soon as we got back [from NACA last spring], I knew I wanted to hire Ronnie Jordan for this year,” Sonka said. “His agent really recommended him for a college.”

Jordan is currently on a national college tour, something he is not unfamiliar with. His Web site says that last spring, Jordan broke college touring records, performing at 102 colleges in 112 days.

Jordan’s performances are known for his somewhat self-deprecating humor and music clips he uses to enhance some jokes.

Sonka thinks Jordan will bring a whole new type of performance to campus.

“I picked him because he told jokes that appeal to everyone,” Sonka said. “I think he’s going to be refreshing in that he’s not afraid to tell jokes that might be a little risqué.”

SAC Diversity has high hopes for the show because on a Friday night, everyone can use a good laugh.
