Softball sweeps their way to four victories in dome

The nationally ranked #21 Luther College softball team began their 2010 campaign by sweeping the Cobbers of Concordia-Moorhead 12-0 and 8-0, March 5-6 at the Augsburg Dome in Minneapolis. Both games were decided in five innings.

In game one, the Norse scored their 12 runs on 10 hits, exploding for four runs in the first inning and seven in the second. Abby Christian (‘12), Lauran Snyder (‘12), Kayla Denner (‘10) and Kelsey Kittleson (‘12) all drove in two runs.

Lexy Determan (‘13) picked up her first win in a Luther uniform, striking out nine and walking two in four innings of work.

In game two, the Norse scored eight runs on 10 hits, scoring two runs in the first and five in the second, securing the season-opening sweep.

Snyder was 2-for-2 with three RBI while Tiffany Kruse (‘10) was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Determan was 2-for-3 as the designated hitter, while Anna Simonson (‘10) was a perfect 2-for-2 in the lead-off slot.

The Norse wrapped up the weekend by defeating the Auggies 15-1 in five innings and 8-0 in six innings.

In game one, Luther scored 15 runs on 14 hits which included a 10-run first frame. Kruse, Kelsey Hake (‘10), Christian and Determan all drove in two RBI.

Kim Lambert (‘10) threw her second consecutive shutout of the season in game two. Lambert allowed two hits and struck out 11.

The Norse scored eight runs on eight hits, led by Denner who was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
