The baseball team is heading to Winter Haven, Fla. for spring break where they will compete in nine games.

Thirty players, chosen by Coach Gillogly, are traveling along with coaches and an athletic trainer.

The team plans to travel to Vero Beach to play in Dodgertown, where the LA Dodgers used to train. Coach Gillogly chose Florida this year instead of Arizona for a chance to play more in-region games. He hopes the variety of competition will help prepare them for northern competition.

“We will try to find different chemistry and hopefully develop while we’re down there,” Gillogly said.

Carl Lottman (‘11) says they expectsto do well and improve their performance as a team.

“The baseball and softball teams opportunities to prepare for the conference season and really get our game going,” Lottman said.

Jeff Rose (‘11) is looking forward to the stiff competition they will meet.

“We play one team, Fontbonne, that went to regionals last year, which will be a fun game,” Rose said.

The team expects to build off of their conference title in the 2009 season. They would like to win conference again and go on to win the conference tournament and compete in regionals.

“The team has done what we need to do to get good results,” Gillogly said.

Aside from playing baseball, they look forward to possibly taking a trip to Tampa or to Disney World on their day off.

“I’m pumped up for the beach,” Lottman said. “Plus I just like going down there and enjoying the weather and playing with the fellas and having a great time on and off the field.”

Gillogly feels confident with the team’s commitment and that the preparation has been good going into this season.

“I’ve been very pleased with their dedication and work ethic and attitude up to this point,” he said.
