Sac Carnivals:" Relive Your Kid Day"
Stress levels are rising as it gets closer to finals, so why not take a break and return to the fun of your childhood with the “Relive Your Kid Day” carnival? The event is sponsored by the Student Activities Council’s Special Events committee and will be held May 1 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on the library lawn.
The festival will include a variety of games and activities, free food, ‘90s music and several chances to win prizes.
Special Events Co-chairs Michelle McCoy (‘12) and Sam DePagter (‘13) came up with the idea of hosting an on-campus carnival to lift everyone’s spirits. The “Relive Your Kid Day” carnival is meant to be a place where students can relax and have fun in the last stressful weeks before finals.
“It’s all about bringing back the things we did when we were kids and didn’t have to worry about the stuff we do now,” McCoy said.
The library lawn will be filled with some favorite childhood activities. There will be volleyball and badminton nets set up, ladder ball, four-square, hula hoops, croquet and many other lawn games to help students feel like a kid again.
Reminiscing about playing around in the sprinkler? Bring a swimsuit for the slip and slide!
“It sounds like it will be a lot of fun,” Stephanie Picha (‘11) said. “I never actually had a slip and slide, so I’d consider going just because they’ll have one.”
There will also be face painting stations to truly bring out the carnival atmosphere.
To satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth, the carnival will have root beer floats, with no meal swipe required.
There will also be a cake walk running for the entire two hours. The cake walk will have 17 cakes up for grabs, all donated by the Women’s Club of Decorah.
Want to really get in the kid spirit? The carnival is hosting a kid costume contest. Whoever can best embody the sense of being a kid through their clothing will win a prize.
“We really want people to participate, so grab your friends or your floor and dress up together,” McCoy said.
Whether it be projects, papers, meetings or work, take a break from it this weekend. Travel back to the stress-free days of childhood and enjoy the carnival!
