Student Senate Update

By: Mitch Zoelzer,

As campus begins preparations for next year, that also means Student Senate is looking for the next round of leaders to take up the reigns. Why should you run for Student Senate? Well here is why some current senators decided to run:

“I ran for Student Senate for the wonderful leadership opportunities and the opportunity to make changes at Luther College.”- Abe Campos, Vice President.

“I decided to run for Student Senate because I wanted make a difference and voice the concerns of my fellow first-years with other senators and faculty.”- Paul Tuskowski, First-Year Representative.

“What does it mean to be part of Student Senate? It means your voice will become part of the conversation responsible for recognizing and legitimizing student concerns. If you decide to partake in this organization you will be coming away with qualities a true liberal arts education expects students to master.” – Courtney Greenley, Sustainability Representative.

“I strongly encourage students with an interest for public service and public speaking to consider joining Student Senate. It was a truly priceless experience for me and I discovered qualities within myself that I never knew existed.” - Abhra Biswas, First-Year Representative.

“If we develop an active and participative political culture on our campus, then and only then will we really realize how important it is to participate in politics at all levels.” -William Montoya, Junior Class Representative.

This is only a snapshot of what it can mean to join the ranks of Student Senate.
