Luther finishes fifth at Warrior Open, Boleen automatically qualifies in javelin
The Luther College women’s track and field team placed fifth at the Winona State University Warrior Open May 1. The Norse posted a point total of 96 points. Host Winona State won the team title with 153 points, followed by Wartburg College with 130 and UW-River Falls with 99.
Individually, Lauren Boleen (‘11), Katie Dolan (‘10), Dani Meirick (‘12) and Michelle Voigts (‘11) posted first-place finishes.
Boleen won the javelin with an automatic qualifying mark and school record throw of 145-1 ft. This distance is currently the third best in the country and broke her own school record, set earlier this year, by almost seven feet. Her nearest competitor finished 26 feet behind her.
Dolan provisionally qualified in the 3,000 Steeplechase, posting a first-place time of 11:02.44, which ranks 17th in the nation. Christina Storlie (‘13) placed second with the seventh-best time in school history of 11:38.03.
Meirick won the 800 meters with a time of 2:14.18 , which is also a provisional qualifying mark and ranks 22nd in the nation. Sam McAllister (‘12), who placed eighth, was clocked at 2:16.80, which ranks third on Luther’s all-time list.
Voigts provisionally qualified in the 400 hurdles with a first-place time of 1:03.77. Her time ranks 15th in the nation. Emily Cory (‘12), who placed fourth, crossed the finish line in 1:05.70.
Luther top-10 finishes were also posted by Melanie Grangaard (‘13) in the 100-meter dash and Kelsey Anderson (‘12) in the pole vault. Grangaard was clocked at 12.79 and ranks tenth all-time, while Anderson cleared the bar at 9-1 1/4 and ranks sixth.
