Baseball wraps up regular season at Coe
The Luther College baseball team won one of three games against Coe College in Cedar Rapids May 7-8.
In game one, the Kohawks exploded for 10 runs on seven hits in the second inning en route to the victory. Only seven of the Kohawks 19 runs were earned, as Luther uncharacteristically committed seven errors.
Chris Reynolds (‘12) (3-for-4), Ben Schott (‘10) (2-for-4), Mark Weber (‘10) (2-for-5) and Zack Topping (‘10) (2-for-5) produced nine of Luther’s 12 hits. Schott and Reynolds scored twice, and Schott led the team with two RBI.
In game two, the sole Luther win of the series, the Norse scored their eight runs on 10 hits, led by Weber, who was 3-for-4 and scored three times. Jeff Riddle (‘10) (2-for-5) and Reynolds (2-for-3) also posted multiple hits. Matt Bruhn (‘11) (1-for-3) drove in two runs.
Augie Lindmark (‘12) (2-0) went the distance on the mound. Lindmark allowed one unearned run on two hits, walked three and struck out five.
Coe’s Alec Lewis (10-0) tossed a two-hitter in game three. He faced 23 batters and struck out 10. Luther’s two hits were produced by Reynolds and Topping.
The series gives Luther an Iowa Conference record of 12-12, 24-16 overall. Coe moves to 15-9 in league play, 24-16 overall.
The six-team Iowa Conference Tournament will take place May 13-15, at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids. Luther is the #6 seed of the tournament and will face #3 Central College May 13 at 1 p.m.
