Makeover in store for Luther website
Luther College’s website is currently undergoing design changes. While no screen shots of the new site are yet available, LIS and the Publication Staff will implement the changes as soon as they feel the model is ready.
According to Executive Director of Communications and Marketing Rob Larson, there are several projected goals for the new website.
“There are several objectives we hope to meet,” Larson said. “Improving the global navigation architecture, providing more robust options for content for second- tier landing pages and providing a framework for more dynamic features and content to be a part of the website.”
Larson also explained the recent need for changes, as well as some of the contributing factors.
“Luther introduced a new content management system for the website this past year,” Larson said. “This creates the opportunity to introduce new options for students, faculty, and staff who manage content on the site and for all visitors. The change in look is really a small part of the project. Navigation and content objectives are really driving this project.”
Luther’s homepage has remained unchanged for the past five years, though the admissions and athletics sites have both undergone reconstruction in the past year and a half.
Select classes have been asked to provide feedback on potential aesthetic and accessibility differences, but the completion date for the new website has yet to be announced.
Hannah Janaky (‘12) commented on various aspects of the current Luther homepage.
“It’s easy enough to use, but sort of boring compared to other college websites,” Janaky said.
Joe Berg (‘12) agrees.
“I don’t have a problem with it, but I wish they would change the pictures more often, or at least have more of them,” Berg said. “Prospective students only come to campus once, so it’s useful for them to have a visual afterwards.”
