Wind turbine dedicated

A dedication for the new wind turbine was held during halftime of the Luther v. Wartburg football game on Nov. 12. The turbine, now operational, is expected to produce 5.2 kilowatt hours of energy each year.
USDA Rural Development state director for Iowa Bill Menner, Campus Pastor Mike Blair and President Torgerson led the dedication ceremony. USDA Rural Development provided Luther with a $500,000 grant to aid in the purchase and construction of the turbine.
The turbine is the first of its kind on a four-year college campus in Iowa. It is expected to reduce Luther’s greenhouse gas emissions by 15% and provide one-third of the energy for campus.
