Purpose
The purpose of Chips is defined biannually by the student staff, which determines the newspaper's philosophy, designs its format and selects its editorial content. For more than 30 years, three purposes have consistently been part of the editorial staff's philosophy:
1. Chips is a forum for campus news and opinion. Chips is a student publication, but because it addresses the diverse issues and draws on a variety of resources, it is a voice of the entire Luther community.
2. Chips is the Luther College newspaper of record. Chips will report campus news with the expectation that the newspaper will be a primary source for current information and future historical research. The staff has an obligation to report on all significant events and people.
3. Chips is also a learning environment, offering students a cocurricular opportunity to explore and learn journalism, photojournalism, graphic design, publishing, marketing and related skills. Chips allows students to learn as they work.
