“I Love a Piano:” A Review

Irving Berlin’s music filled the ears of the Luther community this past Friday, Oct. 23. The review of his music in “I Love a Piano” was a very popular show which drew a full house. This historical review of Irving Berlin’s music brought memories to older viewers and kept the younger crowd interested.

Luther earns an Emmy

Twin Cities Public Television’s 2008 broadcasts of Christmas at Luther earned the network a regional Emmy and is set to run again this holiday season

The Christmas at Luther annual tradition received high recognition this year in the form of a regional Emmy, awarded to the broadcast of last year’s nationally televised program, “Christmas at Luther–Night of Glory, Dawn of Peace.” Twin Cities Public Television filmed and produced the performance recording, which was awarded the Emmy Sept. 26.

Heiruspecs, a hip-hop group from St. Paul, brought life and excitement to students gathered at Marty’s Sept. 25.

Marty’s was crowded with Luther students, particularly hip-hop and R&B fans, long before the show even started. The total attendance for the performance was 372.

As the salsa band Rica Obsesion hit the stage at Marty’s with their upbeat dance songs Friday, Sept. 11, Luther students took to the dance floor whether or not they knew how to salsa.

The concert was co-sponsored by the Student Activities Council’s Diversity Committee and the Diversity Center.

Jayber Crow hits the Marty’s stage once again

Sean Kingston set to burn up Luther dance floor

Patel promotes pluralism at opening convocation

Brahms Requiem a collaborative effort

As the year draws to an end with final exams on everyone’s minds, Luther musicians are taking all necessary preparations for their upcoming performance of the Brahms Requiem. This seven-movement piece will be performed on May 22 by Nordic, Collegiate and Cathedral Choirs, along with the Symphony Orchestra.

Die Fledermaus debuts in the CFL

After over a semester of work, the music department production of Die Fledermaus, or “The Bat”, premieres in the CFL

On May 8 and 9, Luther College students performed the Spring 2009 opera, “Die Fledermaus,” which translates to “The Bat” in German. The performance was the culmination of the music class about opera production, but for students involved it was more than simply a class project.
