The Luther Women’s Tennis Team split their team for maximum playing time on Saturday, Sept. 19. As a team they posted four wins against The University of Dubuque and Carthage College (Wis.) at home, and over Buena Vista University (Iowa) and Morningside College (Iowa) in Storm Lake,
Iowa.

The 25th nationally ranked Luther College golf team finished second at the 14-team Augsburg Invitational held Sept. 12-13 at Majestic Oaks Golf Course in Ham Lake, Minn. The Norse shot a two-round total of 601, finishing three strokes behind UW-Stout.

The Luther Women’s Soccer team kicked off their season posting a 2-3 record, a mediocre start compared to their finishing record of 11-7-2 last season. Despite this slow start, the team is optimistic with a mix of experienced players and incoming freshman talent.

When Doug Nelson (‘82) led a group of cross country runners to his home state of Colorado to spend a week training at high altitude, he had no idea that this idea would become a staple in the men’s renowned program. Twenty-nine years later, the tradition is still going strong with more significance than it had when it began.

When the Luther College Women’s Basketball Team set off for South Africa, they were expecting to see the country, play some basketball and hang out with local kids.

However, what South Africa held for the team was a lesson in spirit and hope that would exceed the expectations they held.

Whether it’s lounging under an oak tree on campus or exploring the depths of a cave, there is a bevy of ways to enjoy the fall weather.

On campus one can join in on the ever-present game of Ultimate Frisbee on the library lawn, or play sand volleyball on the courts tucked between Ylvisaker and the Towers.

The Luther baseball team finished one game short of the national championships last weekend after narrowly losing to Wartburg and earning second place in the IIAC Championships.

The Luther men’s and women’s track and field teams participated in the 2009 IIAC Outdoor Championships May 9-10, finishing in fifth and third place respectively. The meet was the last of the year for both teams.

The Luther Men’s Golf Team took their final strokes this past weekend with a second place finish at the 2009 Iowa Conference Championships in Indianola, Iowa. Shooting a four-round total of 1222, Luther placed 21 strokes behind Central College.

The Luther softball team won three games but, lost two to Coe College and finished in second place at the IIAC Championships this weekend, narrowly missing out on an automatic bid to the national championships.

On April 30, Luther jumped out to a good start in the tournament, defeating Simpson College 7-5.

The Luther men’s tennis team clinched its third team IIAC championship in three years on April 30 in Cedar Rapids.

The Luther College men’s and women’s rugby teams hosted the annual Rugby Daze Tournament April 18 on Luther’s intramural fields. The tournament featured 12 men’s teams, playing in two divisions, and two women’s teams from around the Midwest.

The Luther Ultimate Flying Disc Association (LUFDA) reached new heights this weekend, qualifying for the national tournament for the first time in the program’s history.

Luther and Coe managed to get two complete games in on Saturday afternoon before lightning and rain fell on the Decorah area. The Norse scored a total of 13 runs on 17 hits as they swept the Kohawks 8-4 and 5-4. The two wins give Luther an Iowa Conference record of 11-7, 23-11 overall, while Coe fell to 13-8 in league play, 20-16 overall.
