Luther swimmers make waves

After competing in the Falcon Invite in Minneapolis this past weekend, Luther men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams look forward to continued success throughout the season.
McGivney sets Division III career tackle record

This football season was one to remember for linebacker Kyle McGivney (‘12), whose 145 tackles this year were enough to set the all-time NCAA Division III career tackles record, with a total of 546 during his four years with the Norse. McGivney also broke the NCAA Division III single-season record during the 2010 season with a total of 198 tackles.
Student-athletes excel academically

Luther College had the highest number of all-academic athletes in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) this year.
Wrestling starts the season right
Luther’s #20 nationally ranked wrestling team opened its dual meet schedule with an impressive 37-10 victory over Simpson College in the Regents Center on Dec. 1.
The Norse picked up bonus points in seven of the ten weight classes en route to the victory.
Men’s and women’s basketball update

Luther men’s basketball improved to 2-1 following a 68-49 victory over Webster University (Wisc.) at the Snyder Classic hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan University on Nov. 25-26. Trailing 5-4 four minutes into the first half, the Norse put together a 32-17 run, ending the half with a 36-22 advantage.

Norton wins ‘Courage in Sports’ award

Chris Norton (‘14) was named the winner of the America’s Choice CBS Courage in Sports Award. The announcement was made live during the CBS Early Show on Nov. 12.
Norton was proclaimed the winner because of the courage and determination he has shown in his recovery from a spinal cord injury suffered on Oct. 16, 2010 while making a tackle against Simpson College.
Norse at Nationals

Luther athletics got off to a strong start this year with both the women’s cross country and men’s soccer teams making appearances at NCAA Division III National Tournaments.
Both teams capped off strong seasons, with the cross country women finishing 23rd at the National Meet in Oshkosh, Wis. and the soccer men reaching the eigth finals at the Div. III National Tournament hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
